Mia Hayes
Home Cook & Recipe Creator
Mia Hayes was born and raised in a modest farm town in upstate New York, where the scent of fresh-cut hay mingled with the earthy aroma of her grandmother's pantry. From the age of six, she watched her grandmother, a woman who could turn a humble cabbage into a dish that filled the house with warmth, coaxing her into the kitchen with a wooden spoon and a story. The memory of that spoon, dented from years of use, still lingers in her mind as the first lesson in the power of a simple gesture.
Her culinary journey was further shaped by her father's insistence on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. In the 1990s, he taught her how to forage for mushrooms in the woods behind their home, a skill that became a hallmark of her later work. The combination of her grandmother's comfort recipes and her father's foraging ethos forged a philosophy that food is both a memory and a living experience.
Today, Mia curates over 200 recipes on dinnerandcake, each one a tribute to family traditions and a nod to the changing seasons. She believes that the heart of a meal lies in its ability to bring people together, and that the most meaningful dishes are those that can be passed down from one generation to the next. It is this belief that fuels her relentless pursuit of flavor, texture, and connection.
I believe that food should be honest, simple, and rooted in community. A good dish is a conversation starter, not a performance.
